Life is Short: Reflections on Loss and Faith

Life is fragile and fleeting. Recently, I’ve been reminded of this through the loss of several people around me. These losses have prompted deep reflection on how precious our time is and the importance of living with intention.

Personal Losses and Reflections

A few weeks ago, a high school boyfriend passed away at 36—the same age I am now. Though we parted ways long ago, his death hit hard. It feels far too young for a life to end, reminding me of the unpredictability of life.

I’ve also witnessed the heartbreaking reality of childhood cancer and seen lives lost to drug addiction. While I am thankful that my parents and sibling are still with me, I deeply empathize with friends who have experienced such profound loss at a young age.

Bible Verses on Life’s Brevity

The Bible offers comfort and wisdom in times of loss. Here are a few verses that remind us of life’s fleeting nature and the importance of seeking God’s guidance:

  • James 4:14: “What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.”
  • Psalm 90:12: “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
  • Ecclesiastes 3:1-2: “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die.”

These verses encourage us to value each day and to live wisely.

Living With Purpose

These recent losses make me question whether we are truly living our lives to the fullest. Are we living in a way that honors God and benefits others? Or are we wasting our precious time on pursuits that don’t matter?

What’s important to me is my little family, pets, family, and friends. I strive to be kind to others while respecting myself. Reflecting on what truly matters helps me live with purpose and intention.

I recently watched an insightful YouTube video about the brain by the ADHD Doctor. It wasn’t just about ADHD but about brain health in general. It made me reflect on the importance of taking care of our physical and mental health. Understanding how to keep our brains healthy can lead to a more fulfilling life. I highly recommend this video to anyone interested in making positive changes. Check it out down below.

Finding Comfort in Faith

Life is full of questions, and we don’t always have the answers. But I find comfort in knowing that God sees the bigger picture. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Trusting in God’s wisdom and timing can help us navigate life’s uncertainties.

Reflecting on mortality reminds us to cherish our loved ones, live with purpose, and seek God in all that we do. Let’s strive to live lives that are not only long but full of meaning and impact.

With love,

Kayla (Katie Bee)
